Dr. Neat gave a quick explanation of making a lego block on sketch up and recommended us to draw much guidelines as needed. Everyone in the class got time to work on the lego block that has to be on the website being graded this week since Mr. Miller was not here to work on the other group to work on the shop safety.

The challenge given for this Wednesday was to design a capital E on sketchbook and the designs will be switched with the other team by the three judges. Each team will receive a new design of E made by the other team and using a cardboard and a box cutter will make an E out of it. We were only able to design with sketch up.

November 3, 2016

We continued the challenge and recieved a different design to create it out of cardboard, the models will be judged to see how accurate it has been made from the design that has been given. While using the boxcutter, it was challenging to keep the blade straight across the ruler or a straight edge. It would mostly cut over the guidelines and we had to get another piece of a cardboard to fix it.

Mr. Miller showed a video about technology of engines usded in real life. Then, we moved to looking at the progresses of what the JPL group was making. The vacume machine got a vacume that is more powerful to suck up the water.

The class went over the webistes that has been graded over the week. We were able to know which designed had our team's design of an model E and submitted the one that was more accurate to the sketch up models made. I took pictures of them to post it on my website and finish the Wednesday challenge form.

We worked on filling the Wednesday form to post it on the website.

Today's Wednesday challenge was to guess the ratio of the weight of the 1kg bolts to the other weight given by Dr. Neat. I was one of the judges with Lucas and John to pass out the materials, and record the answers. To solve the challenge, most people borrowed other group's bag of bolts to figure out the ratio. The answer to the challenge was a ratio of 1:4.

Tyler's team won the yesterday's challenge since his group was the only group to correctly described how the scale balances out and works to the class. We looked at the JPL challenge machines. The challenge is coming soon and mostly all the machines got the funnel, vacume and other parts needed to finish the product. Mr. Wilton visited us for the last time to check and give comments.

November 14, 2016

In the beginnig of the period, we worked on the Wednesday challenge forms to finish off with the challenges. The judges were still judging on the Es to determine the winning team. At the end of class, the judges presented the winning team which was Chris's team.

The whole class has a new assignment given about bridges to research and create a ppt of it. Jess I choose the Tower bridge that is located in London, UK. We researched photos of the bridge to put it onto the slides embeded with history of the bridge and purpose.

Sheer force was the main theme to this week's Wednesday challenge. We were in a group of four to put the two tabs together using a material either a glue or a tape. We ended up not having a winner because every tabs were able to hold at least two gallons of water.

November 17, 2016

Mr. Miller concluded the Wednesday challenge. We could not determine the winner because we needed more weight to test the sheer force.

The JPL people finished building their machines for the competitions. However, one group was not able to finish it so they will choose the teams for the competition on the day of the challenge.

November 28, 2016

Kevin told us how to use the rotation tool on sketch up. The object must be in group in order to rotate without the block changing. Using the skills we learned, we have to make a model of an arch bridge that was made.

November 29, 2016

Students who were at the JPL challenge showed the class what they did during the challenge and how the machines worked out. The machines didn't worked as well as it worked out at school. The vacume machine was not able to suck up the water and the fish.

The Wednesday challenge was to build a structure made out of graham crackers, marshmallows and pretzel sticks. The teams made their own structure on the sketch up first, then we would recieve another team's design. Our team decided to use pretzel sticks sticked into the marshmallows to hold the graham cracker. Jess designed the sketch up model and I wrote down the directions to build the structure.
